B.A. Secondary Education, TESOL / Western New Mexico University, Silver City, New Mexico
M.A. English / Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia
I am an experienced, innovative, classroom teacher dedicated to student achievement. I am a highly qualified professional educator with classroom experience and a master's degree in English. After completing my student teaching at Amphi Theater High School in Tucson, I worked at Desert View High School teaching English. Later, joining my husband in California who is now retired from the U.S. Navy, I had the opportunity to teach in Oceanside, California; Vista, California; and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Moving around has given me a wider perspective and a chance to grow as an educator. We are now settled homeowners in Graham County, and we are very proud to be members of the Gila Valley community.
Through completion of a balanced master’s program in literature, rhetoric, and pedagogy at ODU, I am prepared to bring my experience and expertise to the classroom. Additionally, I have attended teacher training seminars such as the WRITE Institute, New Management, and others. Supplementing my TESOL certification, I have continued my commitment to life-long learning with additional graduate work in culture studies and second language strategies.
Raised as a small town girl and copper miner’s daughter, I became an English teacher, military wife, mother to three, life-long learner, and student of the world.
Theodore Roosevelt said, “Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” Educating our future leaders certainly qualifies as such work, and I embrace the opportunity to work with the students and staff of Thatcher High School.
